Courtney Gedeon is a Wife, Mother, Step Mother, business owner, Masters student, and mental health advocate.

During her early years Courtney’s dream was to become an actress and she completed her BFA in acting at the University of Windsor. From there she was signed by one of Canadas most prestigious agencies and began living her dream. Courtney met her husband through the arts and became a step mother to two wonderful children and then had her daughter in 2017.

Shortly after having her daughter Courtney began experiencing post-partum anxiety. Her anxiety became quite intense and did not subside until she found a friend going through a similar experience. After learning more about post partum anxiety as well as seeking therapy Courtney decided to begin Real Housewife of York Region as a way of connecting with other like-minded women in her community. Her goal was to share experiences of mental health struggles and to let others know that they were not alone. Walking in nature and connecting with others was a way for Courtney to help her mental health struggles. This inspired her to start a weekly walking group for women suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. The Real Housewife of York Region walks for mental health have been a huge success! Recently it was announced that Courtney has been chosen as the person of the year for 2020 within her community for her grassroots efforts to help others.

As her advocacy for mental health has evolved Courtney found she wanted to help on a deeper level. During the lockdown of 2020 Courtney decided there was no better time to go back to school and she began her Masters in Counselling Psychology. This degree will allow Courtney to practice as a registered Psychotherapist and continue on her mission to help others and end the stigma surrounding mental health.

Courtney volunteers weekly at the Newmarket food pantry and is inspired by those she meets along her route. Meeting those in adverse conditions has shown Courtney how resilient and strong the human spirit can be.

Courtney’s dream one day is to create a Women’s centre for mental health within her community where women from all over the region can come and find a safe nonjudgmental space to heal and connect.
